Jay Friedman uses a custom mouthpiece made by Parke. It has the rim of a 3G, but a uniquely shaped cup and a smaller backbore.
Friedman has also worked with Max and Heinrich Thein to replicate an old German Kruspe trombone. He has posted details of this project and pictures of the instruments.
